Welcome
This site is maintained by Laborers for JUSTICE, a group of reform minded members of the Laborers International union of North America, ( LIUNA) who believe in strong, democratically run, ethical labor unions. Laborers for JUSTICE have no patience and zero tolerance for corrupt practices in labor unions and believe strongly in a union member's right of self -governance and the right to obtain any and all information from labor officials to exercise that right. We believe in complete transparency.. This site will allow for collaboration by multiple authors simultaneously so there is no bottleneck in posting timely information to the internet. It will provide whatever information is on any web site that will help members of the Laborers Union strengthen and reform the Laborers Union and indirectly the AFL-CIO.
The site is primarily designed to provide on a timely basis any and all information that will assist the members of the Laborers Union to exercise their right of self governance, a right at the core of the LMRDA (Labor Management Reporting and Disclosure Act). Volunteer authors from across the North American continent will be allowed to web publish documents whenever they want without censorship, when they first come across the information in html format. Members of the Laborers Union are presumed to be intelligent, responsible adults fully capable of discerning the truth or falsehood of any information presented.
This site will utilize the latest multimedia technology to present information. Technologically advanced software will be provided free to union members and interested parties to make the collection, dissemination, and retrieval of information as simple as possible. This site will also be utilized to raise money to help finance the communication costs of union reformers, the costs of LMRDA lawsuits against corrupt union officials, and the mailing costs associated with communicating with union members that do not yet have access to the internet. It will be a non profit venture with all receipts and expenditures web published. This site will ask for donations to the cause because it is impossible to mount an effective electoral challenge to incumbent union officers without money. Anyone who disagrees with this basic premise is, in the opinion of the author, a certified idiot.
Laborers for JUSTICE agree with those that advocated a court monitorship over LIUNA and disagrees with those who question the integrity and the honesty of the Department of Justice and those independent officers charged with investigating , prosecuting, and adjudicating instances of corruption within the Laborers Union. (GEB Attorney, Inspector General, Independent Hearing Officer, Appellate Officer). Laborers for JUSTICE, however, believe that true reform of the Laborers can not be accomplished without court monitorship, without the ability to subpoena both employers and employees and with a limited budget that LIUNA can reduce at any time to minimize the effectiveness of internal reform. The failure in the reform of the Mason Tenders District Council and Laborers local 79 and the premature lifting of consent decrees are good examples of the inability of LIUNA to reform itself without court monitorship.
Because it is incumbent upon the members to detect, report, and prosecute corruption in the union, members must be trained to do so. Union members must analyze their local's labor management report. They must attend union meetings. They must peruse their local's IRS 990 report and the 5500 report of their welfare and pension funds. Eternal vigilance is the price of liberty.
It is incumbent upon every LIUNA member to help provide information that will assist his brothers and sisters in the exercise of their right of self governance, a right at the core of the LMRDA. Fax documents to 773-409-1503 and they will be web published in a timely fashion. Offer to become webmaster for the web site I will create for each local and district council. If you don't offer your viewpoint on your local's affairs, your opponents will.
