Re: United States v. District Council
90 Civ. 5722 (CSH)
Local 740, Millwright - OWL Modifications Dear Mr. Scarvalone:
This letter follows my letter of August 18, 2004 to urge prompt Government approval of the Millwright job skill which will be required in connection with the maintenance shutdown of the Indian Point nuclear facility. I am advised by Larry Heuler, the Business Manager of Millwright Local 740 that approximately five (5) millwrights will be requested to staff that job beginning on September 8, 2004, with approximately fifteen (15) additional workers on or about September 20, 2004 and additional workers by the end of September. Two shifts of workers will be utilized, so two qualified shop stewards will have to be dispatched for this job. All workers sent to the job will be required to have completed the Millwright 16 Hour Safety Training course. The names of workers to be dispatched must be sent to the New York Power Authority in advance for security checks and clearance. Local 740 and the District Council cannot dispatch unqualified workers to this important job.
Local 740 would be pleased to meet with you or a member of your staff to answer any questions the Government has about this, but the matter must be attended to during the week prior to Labor Day so security clearances can be conducted for these workers.
