Minimum Dues and Monthly Dues Increase as a Result of Per Capita Tax Increase

The General President has issued the following Information Bulletin concerning the per capita tax increase.

In January, pursuant to action by the 2005 General Convention, the General Executive Board approved an increase in the per capita tax of $1.05 for Schedule 1, changing the per capita tax from $8.95 to $10.00 per month.

Since the Board's decision is based on an "action of the Convention," the provisions of Section 45A pertaining to increasing the minimum dues and increasing the dues members pay applies to this increase   per capita-tax—Section 45A states in part:

"The minimum dues shall be increased by the amount by which the per capita tax provided in Section 45D, E or F is increased by action of any Convention of the United Brotherhood, as of the effective date of any such increase in per capita tax."

"The amount of monthly dues payable by each member to his or her Local Union shall be increased by the amount by which the per capita tax provided in Section 45D, E or F is increased by action of any Convention of the United Brotherhood, as of the effective date of any such increase in per capita tax."

The monthly minimum dues specified in Section 45A for Schedule 1 members is increased to $14.80 a month effective January 2006. ULTRA is being updated to reflect this change immediately.

The monthly dues payable by each member shall be increased by $1.05 a month effective January, 2006. This means that locals that charge monthly dues above the Constitutional minimum will need to increase their dues by $1.05.

This increase does not apply to members who qualify for retired or disabled dues under Section 50. Those dues will remain at $6.00 a month.
