Since our 1st, Newsletter had already been put together, I though I would add this supplement to update our members.
Approximately 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, August
22nd
I spoke to GEB Attorney Robert Luskin, who informed me that although he felt I was doing a wonderful job at Local #2, as I had also done at Local #5, he was replacing me as Trustee with Randy Dalton from Local #681. When I asked Mr. Luskin why I was being replaced, he responded “We felt we should have someone more compatible with the District Council”. He also said he wasn’t happy with my appointing a committee to act as interim officers.
It is my opinion that this occurred because Wednesday, August
16th
at the District Council, I reported that I was appointing a committee of interim officers, conducting classes on the grievance procedures, duties of stewards, contract interpretation and basic labor law. This coupled with a 48-page booklet on how to conduct a Union Meeting. These changes would prepare our members to retake their and proceed with the democratic process and have an election before the end of the year. This apparently frightened some people in the council who may have other ideas on who should take over Local #2. I believe a request was then made for my immediate removal.
At the end of the 18-month trusteeship period, which is November, Local #2 members have the right to petition for the removal of the trusteeship and an immediate election
Demand
that this happens and that the democratic procedures and rights that we have worked towards are preserved.
Thank you all for allowing me to serve you.
Joe Romano
Trustee, Local #2

Crimedawg's comments and opinions
The Chicago District Council has published two newsletters since January 1998. Neither informed the members of the reasons why the council was put into a trusteeship-this despite the mandate of the IHO that democratic practices be installed in the district council by its inept Trustee, Robert "Bobby count the money"" Bloch The racist district council does not want black or latino delegates. The policy of not allowing non elected delegates from unions under supervision/trusteeship, was begun after Romano sent the first black and Latino to attend District Council meetings. The district has no jurisdiction over the constitutional practices, policies , and procedures of locals. It is an economic vehicle for amassing strength in negotiating collective bargaining agreements. The district council, of course, under the constitutions designed by lawyers aiding and abetting organized crime, is not accountable to locals or union members. That will change.
Crimedawg predicts an early election and no extension of the trusteeship. Crimedawg predicts victory for reformers and the eventual electoral ouster of corrupt union leaders. Crimedawg feels he is fairly playing with mental midgets. |
