Members of Laborers Local 2
Dear Brothers and Sisters:
Laborers for JUSTICE Director and Local 2 member Jim McGough has been negotiating with the GEB Attorney, Robert Luskin, to have an election in local 2 at the earliest possible opportunity. To that end, we expect trustee Randy Dalton to hand out at tonight’s meeting a tentative election schedule that commences in January, 2001 instead of December 2000.
The 18 month trusteeship of local 2 ends on November 24,2001 and had Joe Romano remained as trustee, we would be holding an election this month or next month instead of in March, 2001 as proposed by the GEB Attorney.
It is our contention that the trustees of local 2 had 18 months to install an accurate record keeping system and that the members of local 2 should not have to suffer because of their failure to do so. It is also our contention that the problems involving jurisdiction are the result of other laborers locals trying to steal local 2’s jurisdiction, a problem John Burke and Mark Tomasik were fighting to solve when Trustee Schipper’s incompetent deputy trustee, Albert Tracy, failed to support them.
Attached are documents that reflect the struggle of Laborers for JUSTICE to install union democracy in local 2, eliminate the racism of the Chicago Laborers District Council, and obtain information for local 2 members to help them exercise their right of self governance. Please read them. They affect your rights.
Please feel free to call Laborers for JUSTICE for information that LIUNA does not easily provide its members. Jim McGough is not a candidate for office and only wants what is best for local 2 members, an honest local that fights for its members and puts its members’ interests first.
Sincerely Yours
James William McGough
