LIUNA Election Announcements

NOTICE

The 2001 Election Rules for the Delegate and International Officer elections will soon be available in draft form for comment by all LIUNA members. However, there is one element of those Rules that I want to bring to the attention of all members at this time.

The 2001 Election Rules will establish limits on the amount that can be contributed to a candidate. No member will be able to contribute more than $2,000 to any candidate; no candidate will be able to contribute more than $10,000 to his own campaign. These campaign limits will apply to contributions made before the effective date of the Rules, as well as those made after the effective date of the Rules.

The 2001 Election Rules will also require that each candidate must record the name, address, telephone number and Local Union number of every contributor to his campaign, as well as the amount and nature (cash, check, etc) of the contribution. Records and receipts must also be kept of all expenditures. These requirements, too, apply to contributions made before, as well as after, the effective date of the Rules.

THIS NOTICE IS TO BE POSTED ON ALL UNION BULLETIN BOARDS. THE POSTING IS TO BE MAINTAINED UNTIL THE 2001 ELECTION RULES ARE RECEIVED IN THEIR FINAL, BOOKLET FORM.
