Author: Date: 04/10/2000 Page: A20 Section: LettersLETTERS TO THE EDITOR Under the heading of "things we take for granted," it seems to me to be worth reminding ourselves what an extraordinary job the planners, engineers, contractors, laborers, and others working on the Big Dig are doing. They are building an underground highway in the middle of a dense urban center without bringing the business of the city to a halt.
Despite the apparent cost-overruns, we should all stop for a moment and salute the professionals who are making this urban transformation possible - and doing so in a way that is both fascinating to watch and exciting to experience.
No other generation of Boston ians is likely to experience a project of this scale and significance in the foreseeable future. We owe those making this project happen day-to-day on the streets - and under the streets - of Boston a bow.
